We have been informed that our room has been double booked for Saturday 7th May. Therefore, the course will now take place the following week on Saturday 14th May. Many thanks to those who have been in touch and our apologies for this unforeseen inconvenience. Ian will get in contact with you accordingly.
These courses are designed to bring on new walk leaders, which we desperately need to run our group walks programme, so if you have the intention to become a walk leader but need some assistance and advice to get you there this course will help you. Please note that it is not intended for those who do not wish to become a walk leader.
The course will cover basic navigation, maps, compasses, distances, timings etc. In addition it will also include the less technical, but equally important, areas such as group management, where to have lunch and risk management.
To give the course a practical focus you need to select a walk you wish to lead and bring this with you or select one from our library of tried-and-tested walks. We will buddy you up with an experienced walk leader to recce the route prior to your big day!
The course will be held at Stanmer Park 9.00am to 4.30pm. The morning classroom session will be followed by a practical session in and around the park to try out the skills you have learnt. A pay and display car park is available. Please bring a compass along if you have one, all other equipment would be supplied.
This course is open only to BAHR members.
If you would like to attend or need further information please contact Ian Wright (ianww54@gmail.com).
