40 - 50s Walking in the Lakes- Summer 2013

40-50s - Walking In the Lakes - June 2013

I plan to run a walking break in the lakes in June based in Keswick.

Assisted by my brother we are happy to lead walks for 5 days from Thursday 20th to Monday 24th June.  We will offer a list of moderate/ easy to challenging  walks over the five days.  The degree of difficulty is not about distance walked ( all will be relatively short on miles ) but on height gained.  ALL walks in the lakes are weather dependant, if torrential rain, then walks will be around towns or places of interest ( one example being, visit and go underground in a working slate mine ).  If cloud cover is at say 1500 feet then we will aim to walk below that level.  We are happy to offer any major mountain, should people have a preference.  The nearest, and the ones we know well are : Skiddaw, Hellvelyn and Blencathra ( but that don’t mean we can spell them, only climb them ).

Having said that we don’t just want people who want to tackle mountains, my brother and i are happy to split and run two walks on one day, one easy, one more challenging.  It goes without saying everyone is at liberty to walk or not walk any particular day or go off and do their own walks.  Public buses from Keswick are very good but crowded.

Nick and I will try to arrange transport to and from the Lakes but individuals or small groups are to make their own accommodation arrangements in Keswick ( Keswick offers accom. From camp sites, rented mobile homes, B & Bs to hotels BUT please book early many will already be fully booked ).

All walks will start either by foot or car from Keswick each day starting at a specific time ( usually 10am ).  By the nature of the Lakes you will need to take your own packed lunch, its very unlikely that we will ever be near a pub at lunchtime.

In the evening, what i would recommend is that people arrange themselves into small parties if going out for evening meals.  Keswick offers many pubs, restaurants and take away places.  Its very unlikely that we will all want to eat the same type of food each night and trying to get everyone into one location would be very difficult.  It would be nice though if we could all get together for a meal on just one of the nights probably the Sunday ( Sunday is the quietest night in Keswick ).

Please let me know if you wish to come along ( don’t have to come for all 5 nights, one car may decide to come along for a shorter period ) If you intend to take your car and wish to offer say 3 nights pls let me know, as others may want a shorter break too.

Hope you can make it.  E-mail me on terry.brown@radius-systems.com
