Please join us for a hilly circular walk from East Dean, via Beachy Head and Eastbourne Seafront, returning inland over the Downs. It is one of our favourite downland walks in East Sussex, with wonderful views along the coast and over Eastbourne on a clear day. The route is scenically varied and includes a few short sections of the South Downs Way and Wealdway.
Lunch will be in the Carlisle Road area of Eastbourne or by the Wish Tower overlooking the promenade and the sea. There are several eateries to choose from and plenty of benches available nearby for anyone planning to bring a picnic. Alternatively, you could spend a little time walking along to the pier and back. Our stop is expected to last for about an hour. Afterwards, we will reassemble on the lawn opposite the Congress Theatre and the Towner Gallery.
There should be a bit less mud than on some of our recent walks, although we are still likely to encounter some slippery sections.
Click here for further details of the walk, including the options for travelling to and from the starting point by public transport from Brighton. This avoids repeating everything already set out in the programme. Let us know if you are on the designated 13X bus and it is running late for any reason. Also, note that the Hikers Rest café in East Dean is closed for holidays until the second week of January.
New members are welcome, although there is often a limited number of places available on our walks for those without a current subscription to the Ramblers. It is a requirement that all non-Ramblers members join the BAHR 30s-50s Walking Group on Meetup and have confirmed RSVPs before attending a maximum of 3 walks. These restrictions do not apply to anyone who is a paid-up member of the Ramblers.
We hope to see some of you on our walk and will keep our fingers crossed for the weather this Sunday.
Cheers
Chris G and Clare H
