This 10.5 mile walk is through classic downland scenery, offering some panoramic sea and inland views, especially on a clear day.

Those of you travelling by bus should catch the No. 12 at 9.37am from stop K opposite the Sea Life Centre, or alternatively at 9.30am from stop E at Brighton Churchill Square. The bus is scheduled to arrive at the request stop next to Eastbourne Youth Hostel at 10.42am. It is located approximately ¼ mile past the Downs Golf Club on the north side of the A259. I shall be at the start to meet the bus and we will aim to get underway immediately afterwards.

For anyone wanting to travel by car, there is a small off road parking area immediately adjacent to the youth hostel. Additional unrestricted parking is available on street in Pashley Road / Upland Road, which is the first turning on the right, less than 100 yards further down the A259.

Lunch will be at Birling Gap. You can either bring a picnic or have something to eat / drink in the National Trust Café. We will probably be stopping there for between ¾ of an hour and 1 hour.

The ground is mainly chalk grassland, so there should not be too many boggy sections. There is 1300 feet of ascent and descent, with one short steep section at Belle Tout, which can be detoured around if necessary. This walk is also slightly different in that it does not directly involve Beachy Head, or The Seven Sisters, and very little of Friston Forest!

We hope that you can join us on Sunday.
