BAHR NEWS UPDATE

(In this edition: New volunteers needed for Sunday walks programme; Wardens needed for Sussex border path; dates for the diary)

Sunday Walks Representatives

Chris Goodyear and Clare Hall have announced their intention to step down from your committee as Sunday Walks Coordinator and 30-50s Representative respectively with effect from the AGM in November.  This will leave a massive hole in the way our Group is administered.  Both Chris and Clare have greatly contributed to the recent success of the Sunday walks programme, including the introduction of the links with Meetup.  It is probably not an exaggeration to say that, without Chris’s energetic and enthusiastic approach to ensuring that we have two walks each Sunday, this part of our programme would have collapsed long ago.  It has been a constant struggle for him to find enough volunteers to lead walks and to put a full detailed programme in place.  There is now a serious risk that we shall have to dramatically curtail some of our Sunday walk programme unless suitable replacements for Chris and Clare come forward.  I am therefore appealing to all members, especially those who are established regular Sunday walkers, to give serious consideration as to whether they might be able to take over one or other of these important positions on the BAHR committee.  Chris 30s50s-walks@bahr.org.uk and Clare 30s50s@bahr.org.uk are both ready to offer advice about their respective roles.  Please let me know chair@bahr.org.uk if you are interested in offering your services.

Sussex Border Path

I reported in my last News Update that Sussex Ramblers have assumed responsibility for the Sussex Border Path.  Our committee has now considered how BAHR might play our part.  We have decided to look for volunteers to act as Path Wardens covering the 11 mile stretch from Scaynes Hill to Patcham.  We feel that four volunteers could comfortably cover this route, working in two pairs - one covering Scaynes Hill to Ditchling and the other Ditchling to Patcham.  Their modest responsibility would be to walk their share of the route at least once a year, and report any problems to Sussex Area Ramblers.  Would anyone interested in volunteering to take on this task please contact Geoff Cook area@bahr.org.uk by not later than 28 June.

The Ramblers will be holding a National Walking Festival from 3 - 11 September and this event will be used to 'Relaunch' the Sussex Border Path under the management of Sussex Ramblers. It is planned to hold a well publicised walk from Wivelsfield Village Hall in the afternoon on 10 September, which will include refreshments and a short opening ceremony with a dignitary saying a few words. As part of the same celebrations, we have arranged a walk taking in a section of the Sussex Border Path on 3 September.  Please add these dates to your diary as it would be great to see both events, and the volunteers involved, well supported.  Further details will follow in due course.
