The Brighton & Hove Ramblers Group was founded in 1983.  To celebrate our 30th anniversary this year your committee is planning to celebrate this milestone with a barbecue to be held in Mick Thatcher’s field near Ditchling on Saturday 13 July. We invite you to join us, and hope that as many members as possible will attend from across all three sub-groups.  Please make a note of the date in your diaries now.

This will be a do-it-yourself function, so please bring along your own barbecues, charcoal, food and drinks, ice-boxes, chairs, rugs, etc.  There will be a limited amount of communal barbecue facilities for those of you who do not have your own.  Tea and coffee will be available. A notional charge of £1 per head will be collected on the day to cover incidental expenditure.

For those interested, there will be a circular four mile walk organised before the barbecue, starting and ending at Ditchling Field, led by Mick Thatcher.

Walkers should meet at East Side Preston Park railway Station at 2.00pm.  For those going direct, the walk will leave Ditchling Field at 2.30pm.  Non-walkers should meet at Preston Park railway Station at 4.00pm.  The barbecue will be held between 4.30pm and 8.00pm.  We hope to have a camp fire.  Any guitarists most welcome!  Car drivers too!  Parking is available at the field.

To reach Ditchling Field, take the B2112 (or via the beacon) to Ditchling.  At the crossroads, turn right on to the B2116 (Lewes Road) towards Plumpton and Lewes. After ¾ mile approx turn left on to Spatham Lane and continue for a further ¾ mile to Ditchling Field, on the left hand side.  It will be marked BAHR.  Explore map 122.  Reference TQ337157.
