30s-50s Ashdown Forest, Crowborough and Black Hill Circular – Sunday 22nd July 2018

This walk is 11 miles long and takes us through the attractive eastern area of the Ashdown Forest which includes the famous Five Hundred Acre Wood, and also the outskirts of Crowborough, where we will be stopping for lunch at the White Hart on the Green. Alternatively, bring your own picnic to have on one of the many benches located nearby.

Kindly let us know by latest 10.00am this Thursday if you would like to pre-reserve a place for the pub lunch and are certain of attending the walk. Otherwise, feel free to book your own table for 1.15pm or simply take a chance as the pub is relatively large. Our lunchtime stop is expected to last around 60-75 minutes, depending on how quickly the food is served.

The terrain is undulating and should be firm after the lack of rain. There is also some pavement walking on the approaches to and from the town. People may find that walking poles are helpful later on when we cross a narrow stream via uneven stepping stones (assuming that it has not dried up by now). Click here for further details of the walk, as this saves repeating everything already set out in the programme.

The nearest postcode TN22 3JD is nearly 0.4 miles south of the starting point, so take note if using a SatNav. Please allow sufficient time to get to the ‘Four Counties’ car park as we do need to begin the walk promptly from there at 10.30am.

We hope that some of you are going to be able to join us this Sunday. Although various sections of the walk are shaded, you will still need to remember to bring sunscreen and extra water, as more hot weather is currently being forecasted.

Cheers
