I have already booked my accommodation for a short week's walking in the Peak District National Park this Autumn and invite any Brighton and Hove Ramblers to join me.
I am basing walks from Castleton which gives easy access by public transport to the White Peak and the Dark Peak and is a good base with a decent hostel (Losehill Hall YHA- several single and twin rooms still available!) and a variety of B+B and hotel options to suit most budgets! There are a range of pubs for eating…Continue

Saturday, 8 September 2018 (Group: Brighton & Hove)
Meeting time 9:20, Start time 10:30
Moderate 9 miles / 14.5 km (Estimated finish time: 14:30)
We prewalked this route last week and it has a little bit of everything- far more varied than a glance at the map would suggest- but only two small hills. There is one slightly soft/overgrown stretch but it is otherwise on good tracks and paths- you may want long socks or trousers unless you are very hardy.

It may not surprise walkers on Diana's excellent Ashdown forest walk last Saturday, but unfortunately, a colourfully sprained ankle so spectacularly, yet mundanely, acquired means I will be postponing the Leith Hill walk until later in the year. I intend spending the next few days with my foot up on ice watching the World Cup!
Apologies for any inconvenience caused, and thanks to the kindly Sherpas who helped me make it back to base camp on Saturday.
Saturday 16th June: Lovely and flat walk with great views without too much exertion! Please note the changes to the meeting and start times. Drivers can still join us on route by parking in Lewes and catching the 29 from Waitrose at 9:51

Things have dried out nicely during the hot weather,so hopefully not to slippy this time. There are shady churches to sit in (briefly) though we wont stop anywhere more than about 5 minutes (except the pub at the end). Because we finish relatively early we will probably just have a picnic snack stop at Coombes or Botolphs. Hungry bunnies can get a fuller meal at the end of the walk if needed. Drivers may wish to use the 2 bus to return to their cars if left in Steyning , or park in Shoreham…Continue

I walked this route on Monday and the good news is spring has reached the Surrey Hills. This really is too good a walk to miss. The scenery is wonderful, much of the walk is on well drained sand or firm tracks and we even pass a pub used in filming "4 Weddings and A Funeral." Furthermore, we have a decent forecast for Saturday.
The bad news is the March downpours and the April showers have also done their work, so boots will be needed and poles may help if you like a…Continue

Hi everybody, the forecast is good (at the moment), who knows, even the mud may have dried up.
This walk starts and finishes early to allow everyone to either go to the Albion Cup game (starts at 3) or to escape the bedlam in good time! Be aware that there has been some fairly crazy match-day parking at Wild Park, so you may want to consider your getaway if parking there!
In view of recent discussions, this is an assistance dog (and Humans) walk only.

Unfortunately we need need to tweak the start time for this walk thanks to Rail Improvement buses which have added 40 minutes to our journey out and two changes.
I will attempt to lead the walk but will meet at 9am at Brighton station to catch the 9:10 replacement bus. The original start time would have arrived too late to enjoy a longish walk. In theory we…Continue
