Many people walk the paths around the old chalk pits at Offham, near Lewes .
But almost none of these paths is on the rights of way map so, in theory, any one of them could be stopped up at any time.

Have you tried to use the bridleway past Lewes racecourse buildings since June and found most of it fenced off? Or are you concerned to read that it has been fenced off?
The route with the problems is just north of the racecourse buildings, on the route that runs between Mount Harry at one end and Lewes Town Centre or Lewes Prison at the other. Some years ago Brighton Council opened up a five mile wheelchair and pram accessible trail on the South Downs at Stanmer. It won a lot of praise.

The RA and the YHA have launched a joint project as part of the Ramblers Routes project. The deal is that someone who has completed the Ramblers routes training creates two walks from a youth hostel. They get a free bed night. Then the routes are checked by another member, who also gets a free bed night.
