This event is to feature the Sussex Border Path walking a significant section between Mile Oak and Varncombe Hill (just beyond Saddlescombe). This walk starts at Heaven Farm just South of Dane Hill. I have agreed with the owner to park in the overflow car park just inside the entrance gate on the north ( right side ) this to accommodate other visitors. The walk starts at Roost Hole C.P north of the Mannings Heath Village G.R. TQ208299. Meet at Preston Park Station at 9-30 a.m and bring transport if possible. This walk starts from Steyning Library Car Park and proceeds via the River Adur to Small Dole for lunch, either picnic or pub. After lunch the walk continues via Stretham Manor, Natts Cottage, Staplefields then back to Steyning. For those of you who are unaware of this body, the Monday Group has been in existence since the end of the 2nd World War although the name only goes back to the 1960s. After the war the footpath structure was in a very poor state and the early members set about trying to improve the situation in the area to the north of the South Downs up to Burgess Hill and from Albourne to Chailey. This walk has been organised to take place in the Adur valley and following my visit to the area last Sunday it appeared difficult to access the river bank from the Steyning Car Park. I also received information from another walk leader that access to paths further upstream were difficult in early February and a further 4/5 inches of rain have fallen since then. You are invited to attend this walk, meeting at Preston Park Station at 9-30a.m and then travelling by car to Horsted Keynes C.P at G.R TQ384283. Please bring cars for shared transport. The walk proceeds via Broadhurst Manor on to Chelwood Gate for Pub lunch at the Red Lion or picnic. The afternoon continues through Sheffield Forest and Woodgate Farm. The total distance is 8 miles, the terrain is undulating but no extreme hills.
