The Hove Centre at Hove Town Hall will again be the venue for the 22nd Sussex Beer & Cider Festival. It is on this coming weekend 8th to 12th March 2012.
I am going along on the evening session on Friday 9th march with a few friends. I have a couple of spare tickets for the very popular Friday evening session. If you are…Continue
I've had a good level of response and am going ahead with booking accommodation. If you are interested, I am taking deposits of £20 per person now, in order to secure the accommodation, the rest to be payable in November. The cost will not exceed £50 for the two nights.
I am envisaging arrivals Friday afternoon and walks on Sat and Sun. I am planning to book dinner at a local pub for the Saturday evening.
If you email me at email@example.com I'll give you my bank…Continue

Following requests, a shorter 20/40's afternoon walk this week. The walk starts at 2pm and, with half an hour or so at the Chattri, we should return by 5pm. Rather unusually there won’t be any pubs or tea shops on this walk – so please bring any food and drink that you want!
We’ll be meeting where the walk starts and finishes. This is near the Horsdean recreation ground in Patcham (just off Vale Avenue where it does a right angle turn at grid ref TQ304092) and not the…Continue

The subject came up during the Dorset holiday this year of the pretty poor comfort levels at the Youth Hostel in Litton Cheyney. Several people were still keen to 'do' Dorset but in maybe a more comfortable way. As a result, I've had a bit of a look and have found a group of cottages/barn conversions in Abbotsbury which would be suitable for up to about 24 people. They all have either ensuites or a bathroom shared…
In this workshop on how to rethink your career options and find fulfilling work, Roman Krznaric will be discussing whether we should abandon the ambition of becoming a high achiever and instead aim to be a 'wide achiever'. He will also be exploring the psychology of career confusion, explaining why we need to put ourselves on 'radical sabbaticals', and revealing just why we should not attempt to find our vocation - we should grow it.
Roman Krznaric is a cultural thinker who advises…Continue

The new walk programme is on-line. See "public walks programme" link. If you prefer to print out the programme and/or would like a copy with the leader's name this is available to website members in our "Docs" areas
There are unfortunately three gaps in the 20/40's programme. But it's not too late! The gaps are

By the way, the Half Marathon takes place today and may well affect the traffic around the Level, so please leave extra time travelling down there. Thanks Clive

Just a note re this Sunday's walk from Peasmarsh to Rye, they've moved the fabulous Scallops festival back a week ! The walk will still go ahead this Sunday, however there is no guarantee of Scallops for lunch at the pub, although I suspect their inclusion on some menus is somewhat likely..
It's an 8 mile circular walk from Peasmarsh to Rye with a pub or picnic lunch & possible short heritage walk. We'll leave the West Side Of The Level promptly at 10am (please don't snigger about…Continue
According to the weather forecast there will be an easterly wind on Saturday so I am planning to start the walk at Worthing Station so we will have the wind behind us all the way to Littlehampton Station and it will therefore be less cold. All the train arrangements and meeting place remain the same - a day return ticket to Littlehampton will be required. Jean 07985608845
Unfortunately I am unable to go to the Litton Cheney YH weekend now. It is a cosy hostel in a pretty little village with good walking. Travel to Dorset via car shares. Please contact me of you would like my place: Janet

Hope you'll join me on this walk along the coast from Littlehampton Station to Worthing Pier. The temperature is supposedly improving by the weekend - at least four degrees above freezing. Hopefully there may be a cafe open for coffee but please bring a drink and picnic just in case. The walk goes along the seafront on promenade or on grass and, if the tide is right, we may be able to walk on the beach. The train leaves Brighton at 9.44 am, Hove at 9.53 am, Shoreham-by-Sea 10 am and…Continue

A shorter than usual five mile walk around Firle this Sunday afternoon. We meet at the level at 1pm and then drive to Firle. Due to the start time there will be NO LUNCH on this walk, so please eat before joining us! Depending on the drivers, there may be a chance for drinks/food at the end of the walk. If you have a car please bring it to the level
We're doing a shorter walk this week as a few requests for briefer and afternoon walks.
Hi all, there are just a couple of spaces left for 40-50s walks for the March-June programme - if anyone else feels like having a go at leading a walk, there are spaces on 4 March and 3 June (that's the Hay Festival weekend and also I think the Royal Jubilee, so maybe a good option if you want small numbers turning up!). Alternatively we could add some Wednesday evening walks in May/June. I have another week or so to finalise, so let me know ASAP if you're interested. And huge thanks to…Continue

At this event, held at Bosham, the chairman made a special mention of group's websites stating that they were all good but the Brighton & Hove site was the most professional. It was most unfortunate that only 3 BAHR members attended to hear the comments. The main item of discussion was communication between the county and group members due to the high cost of publication and postage. Following a vote at the AGM it was agreed to reduce the number of news releases from two per…Continue

Just to let you know my customary Rottingdean walk via Woodingdean is taking place this Sunday. I maywell decide to alter the post lunch part of the walk due to the fact that walking back to the Pier is a bit of a long hard slog and may well opt for a loop instead via Roedean and Ovingdean, getting a bus back to Brighton from Rottingdean at the end! It worked very well on Sarah's walk in January.
Snow is a threat on Sunday so beware and bring warm woollens! Don't…Continue
So far I have two walks for the next programme and that includes one that I am involved in! So please, please, please send in your walks asap. I understand that the walks are being very well attended and that there are lots of new faces. It would be a shame not to have the programme brimming with the walks we all so clearly enjoy (spot the desperate blackmail!!).
It is dead easy - pick a walk from a book or the internet, fill in the table in the leaders area…
