Albourne Circular Sunday 7th April

This is a 4 mile circular walk designed for new walkers or the not so fit it is easy paced flat walk starting at 2-30 p.m with a local meeting point at Preston Park Station at 2-00 p.m. I have been told that there is a definite need for short walks but to date there has been little support. Therefore this is the testing time either use it or lose it.

Thank you Upper Lodges & Downs walkers

Today, Thursday 14 March, we were joined on the walk by 8 professional fund raisers who have been engaged by Ramblers Head Office. They are based in Brighton and asked if they could join a walk to get a feel about what we do on the ground. They chose this walk. Although the weather was very blustery we had no rain only mud. They fully engaged in the walk and asked me to thank you all for being such a friendly and interesting group and to tell you how much they enjoyed walking with you.  thank…

19.1.19 Tea at Emswort h and the Sussex Border Path

All aboard the Nutbourne Express this Saturday. Train departing Brighton 9:04 ! I pre walked our route on New Years Day and there was a distinct lack of mud! Don't be put off by the distance because this walk has very gentle ascents, not too many stiles and generally good surfaces. You may wish to bring sandwiches or check out the menu at the Barley Mow Walderton before so we can pre-order any food to avoid delays at the bar!

30s-50s East Dean, Beachy Head and Eastbourne Wish Tower Circular – Sunday 6th January 2018

Please join us for a hilly circular walk from East Dean, via Beachy Head and Eastbourne Seafront, returning inland over the Downs. It is one of our favourite downland walks in East Sussex, with wonderful views along the coast and over Eastbourne on a clear day. The route is scenically varied and includes a few short sections of the South Downs Way and Wealdway.

Lunch will be in the Carlisle Road area of Eastbourne or by the Wish Tower overlooking the promenade and the sea. There are…

Thursday walk from Kithurst Hill

It looks like we will enjoy a break from the rain on Thursday with some welcome sunshine, but who knows. Having walked the route on Sunday after a day of rain, the ground was starting to turn muddy with a few standing puddles. To try and avoid slippery slopes I have decided to reverse the walk which means a couple of steep inclines around the third quarter of the route, but you will enjoy a downhill finish. Hiking poles are recommended.

As the Frankland Arms, Washington is now closed…

Change to next Thursday's walk: 6 December

As my original route duplicated too much of Graham's recent walk, I've redesigned it, but starting at the same location.  The new route (which is already on the on-line programme) will take us through Friston Forest to Exceat, and then back along the SDW over five of the Seven Sisters.  It's a moderately strenuous walk, with lots of hills, but with wonderful views of the Cuckmere Valley.  Walking poles are recommended. Hope to see you there. Mike
