Wednesday Evening Walks for 30th July and 6th August

Hi All,

I am no longer able to lead the evening walk on Wednesday 6th August due to a work commitment and therefore I proposing to move the walk forward to this Wednesday 30th July.

Therefore, the walk this coming Wed 30th July will be around the Fulking and Edburton area.  We will meet at the southern end of Preston Park at 7pm and then make our way to the walk start point.

I hope to see a few of you there!

Justin.

Arlington Reservoir Circular Thursday 24th July 2014

Because of the current warm weather, I have shortened tomorrow's walk, and varied the route. Hopefully with more shade than the advertised walk.  It will be about 5 1/2 miles. The start and finish details remain the same.

Look forward to seeing you.  Please remember Hats, Creams, and Water.

Hello Everyone,

The Southease to Exceat walk is on for tomorrow. We'll meet at Brighton station at 9:40 to catch the 9:47 train to Southease. I'll be standing between the ticket machines and the coffee shop. I'll be the ginger guy that looks like a walker. Remember also to bring a picnic lunch.

Hope to see you tomorrow.

Sunday Walk 20th July Whiteways-Bignor Circular.

I hope several of you are looking forward to the Whiteways (near Arundel) walk on Sunday. It should be a lovely lush woodland ending with a gorgeous stretch of the SDW and several great vistas. There are very few hill climbs, although it is definitely not flat, and no real mud either.Although there will not be a pub stop, there will be several pleasant places to have our picnic lunch and cake-heavy snack stops, along with a probable cake-and-tea visit to Arundel (time allowing). Please bring…

Monday Group Recruitment

For those of you who are unaware of this body, the Monday Group has been in existence since the end of the 2nd World War although the name only goes back to the 1960s. After the war the footpath structure was in a very poor state and the early members set about trying to improve the situation in the area to the north of the South Downs up to Burgess Hill and from Albourne to Chailey. Membership has waxed and waned in the last nearly 70 years and at present we are low in the path clearance…

Thursday Walk 17th July Bolney Circular

This Thursday's walk will be just under 6 miles and will be a mix of woodland, fields and quiet country lanes.  There were some awkward muddy patches in places when I checked last weekend so boots are advised.

If you are unable to park at or near the car park ( just beyond the pub), there should be plenty of room further up the main street.

Saturday 19 July

My apologies, but I will have to cancel my walk on Ashdown Forest on Saturday due to a knee problem.  I don't think 9 miles on the forest terrain will help it recover!  Jean

Opening of Court Farm Open Access Area: 16 July

B&H Council have announced a couple of late changes to the arrangements for the opening of the Court Farm Open Access land (originally reported in my circular email of 11 July).  There is no 46 bus on the day.  The only public transport option is the 24 bus leaving Churchill Square at 12.13 and arriving at Old Boat Corner at 12.48, where there will be arrangements to meet.  Alternatively use the car park in Braypool Lane (near the RSPCA), from where a shuttle bus will take you to Upper…

Wednesday 16th evening walk

I hope it will be a stunningly beautiful evening for all those who want to join. There are likely to be cows on route so pleas be prepared for this.

The car park: driving up north along the A23, turn onto the A27 towards Lewes, take the first exit off the A27 and you will see a mini roundabout. Head towards that mini roundabout and turn right into a narrow lane and park there. The footpath to the Chattri is marked on the map from that parking area.

Sunday 6th July - Exceat to East Dean Circular

The forecast for Sunday looks good so hope you will join me for this lovely walk through Friston Forest to Jevington and then up to Babylon Down where there are spectacular panoramic views from Eastbourne to Brighton. Lunch will be on the green at East Dean where there is a choice of cafe, pub (Tiger Inn) or picnic. BTW, the Tiger Inn no longer takes bookings so it's pot luck I'm afraid and, if the weather is good, it will be very busy so I suggest taking a picnic! After lunch we head back…
